DIY: How to Make Your Own Pom-Pom Sandals

June 3, 2016

Happy Friday! We are switching it up today and getting a little crafty, just in case you needed a project for the weekend. 😉 If you have been eyeing these fun pom pom sandals from brands like Aquazzura or Sam Edelman, but haven’t wanted to shell out your hard earned money for this trend, you’re in the right place! This DIY is actually super easy and inexpensive.

Here’s what you will need:

Slide Sandals (This is an old Forever 21 pair that I re-purposed)

Hot glue gun with hot glue sticks

Pom Poms in whatever colors and sizes you want

Pom-Pom trim

Optional: “Friendship bracelets”…learn how to make these here

First step is to plan hat you are going to do before getting busy with the hot glue gun. I almost got started before realizing that the one bag of pom poms I bought didn’t have enough pinks for me to go with my original vision. Once that hot glue dries, you can’t make changes, so make sure you are happy with what you’re doing before it is permanent.

The next thing I did was attach the pom pom trim to the front strap. The beauty of this DIY is that you can really do whatever style you want, so feel free to use this DIY as an example for what you could do.

After adhering the first strip of pom pom trim, I went with the smaller of the two trims and put that right above for a layered look.

After the pom pom trim, I started on the flower design I decided on. Again, make sure you have things spaced out properly before you start with the glue! The symmetry of your designs definitely depends on this.

Now, if you really want to get crazy, you can incorporate a fun, colorful friendship bracelet into your shoes. I chose to do this to cover up the metallic strip that was exposed on the front strap of my sandals. Here you can see the difference because I conveniently shot an outfit with these shoes before they were completed. You’re welcome 😛

If you aren’t familiar with how to make these bracelets, you can check the link out in the beginning of these instructions. Again, this is kind of extra credit if you want to take the look of your shoes a little further, but these definitely would’ve looked great without it!

Well, there you have it! These took me almost no time to make, and now my old slides got new life! To check out how I styled these, check out my outfit post from earlier this week here. If these shoes don’t make you want to go on a South American vacation, I don’t know what will. 😉 On another note, if you loved this DIY, stay tuned because I will be sharing a video on how make the gladiator sandal version of this look very soon on my NEW youtube channel. You can’t wait, I know. Patience is a virtue my friends!

What did you think about this DIY? If you give this a try, I’d love to see the finished product! Make sure to tag me on Instagram, @missmoorestyle, so I can see your DIY sandal masterpieces!

Thanks for reading, and have a great weekend!
