Classic Italian Style in the Sinking City

July 11, 2016

Venice, Italy is without a doubt one of the most incredible cities you will ever see. Don’t get me wrong, more than anything I was excited to see Paris and loved every minute there, but nothing has ever amazed me as much as Venice. This city on the water is so gorgeous, I literally could not stop taking pictures of EVERYTHING. I had absolutely no chill and did not care that I was giving myself away for the tourist that I was. I could go on and on about how beautiful and romantic Venice is, but I’ll let my pictures do the talking.

When I was in Italy, all I wanted to do was channel Audrey Hepburn and really classic late 50’s and early 60’s style. This striped off the shoulder top was on sale at Zara the week before I left for my trip, and I snapped it up because to me it just screamed Italy. IMG_1264

This boater hat was another pre-trip purchase I made with Italy in mind. I thought it was a little corny to wear this in Venice until I got to my Airbnb and saw the host had a similar hat hanging in the hallway. I mean, if the locals do it, I say its fair game! Plus it really keeps the sun off your face which is the farthest thing from corny.

As I said earlier, Venice is simply breathtaking, and I had absolutely no chill from the moment I stepped on the water bus. Although Venice is probably the most confusing place I have ever been to, I really didn’t mind getting a little lost because around every corner was yet another beautiful view. Seriously though, I have never been to a more confusing city. I had to use my maps app to navigate myself on foot literally everywhere I went!

One thing that is a given while visiting Venice is that you go for a gondola ride. My friend Wendy and I decided that was the first thing we would do, since the weather for the next day looked like rain. Honestly, it doesn’t get more Venetian than a gondola ride while a man sings to you in Italian, am I right?

Our ride departed at 7:30pm, which was perfect because the sun was just setting. Seeing the city of Venice from the canals while we cruised in a gondola was something that I will never forget…definitely do not miss out on this when you visit Venice!

On another note, I wonder if Venetians get sick of hearing the songs “Volare” and “That’s Amore”…I almost got sick of hearing them and I was only there 2 days!

    I could spend a whole week there. It’s so beautiful. I’m not sure I’d be able to walk in those heels all day 😀

      They weren’t too bad, it helped that they were so chunky, stilettos don’t do well on cobblestones lol

    Wonderful ! Very romantic !

    “The gamesome wind among her tresses plays,
    And curleth up those growing riches short;
    Her spareful eye to spread his beams denays,
    But keeps his shot where Cupid keeps his fort;
    The rose and lily on her cheek assays
    To paint true fairness out in bravest sort,
    Her lips, where blooms naught but the single rose,
    Still blush, for still they kiss while still they close…”
