Ever since liquid matte lips started becoming a huge trend in the beauty scene a couple years ago, I have been 100% in love with liquid lipstick. I almost never use traditional lipstick anymore for a couple reasons. Regular lipstick just does not have the staying power that liquid lipstick does. I also really love how liquid lipstick is notorious for staying put all day, even through meals, drinks, and various other daily activities I might engage in. Also, my fiance will refuse to kiss me unless I tell him that I’m wearing lipstick that “doesn’t come off,” because he hates getting lipstick on his face. This last one is really my main reason for my obsession with matte liquid lipstick because before, I had to decide between wearing lipstick or being able to kiss my man when I wanted to…that’s not a decision I like making! All of this being said, not all liquid matte lipsticks are created equal, and I am always on the hunt for new and better brands to add to my collection. It can be difficult to find that perfect color in a formula that really has staying power but also doesn’t dry out your lips.

I recently was sent some colors from a new brand, Dame Cosmetics, to try out and review. First of all, I love how all of their colors are named after an old Hollywood starlet. The colors really do correspond to the style and look of the actress they are named for. I chose the Audrey (a bright pink) and the Lauren (a dark red-plum) because I loved the contrast of the two colors. Immediately upon opening my package, I had to swatch the colors on my hand, because…duh! 😉 Immediately, it was apparent that these lippies are super pigmented, which is a must for me. Before ever actually wearing these on my lips, I observed how those swatches had major staying power on my hand, even though I washed my hands multiple times, so I knew this stuff was not messing around! I’ve worn both colors multiple times already, and I’m really impressed at how they stay put on my lips. The Audrey was worn when I went to Derby Day LA and the Ice Cream Museum, and the Lauren was worn to the Skyline Festival in downtown LA. I love how i really did not need to reapply while at these events, regardless of how much I ate or drank.

This brand also has such an amazing story behind it. It was founded in 2016 by Candace Roach, who decided to quit her job and pursue her dream of starting her own cosmetic line. She basically started out by making small batches of her cosmetics out of her kitchen on the weekends with her mom, which I think is so cool! I really have such respect for people who take such a big risk and decide to do what they love. Also, because these lip colors are still made in small batches, she is able to ensure that all the ingredients are top notch and all natural, which is hard to say about a lot of cosmetics out there these days. As if that wasn’t cool enough, she also gives back to her community by donating a portion of her profits to charities.
