City Guide LA: Museum of Ice Cream

June 5, 2017
The Museum of Ice Cream

The Museum of Ice Cream

Happy Monday everyone! I am excited to share this post with you today as it is the first of many of my new City Guide LA series. I absolutely love going out and exploring new spots in this amazing city I live in, and I want to share my Los Angeles adventures with all of you. You can definitely look forward to more posts on my favorite spots to eat, drink, and play here in the City of Angeles, so make sure you stay tuned for all the fun. Today, I’m sharing about my experience at the ever popular and oh-so-instagrammable Museum of Ice Cream. If you happen to follow my instagram, you probably saw via my stories that I finally got to visit this pop up museum a couple weeks ago. If you happen to live in LA or are coming for a visit, you’ve gotta check this museum out as they are only here through the summer. If you’re not in LA, read on to live vicariously through these fun photos because this museum is so much fun!

First of all, as my fiance loves to point out, the Museum of Ice Cream isn’t really a museum in the traditional sense. If I had to actually describe the Museum of Ice Cream, its more of a massive art installation/photo opp where they serve you ice cream in every room. If that doesn’t sound like a blast, then I don’t know what to tell you, but my sweet tooth was definitely in heaven here.

The Museum of Ice Cream

Even the walls are covered in sweet goodness!

The Museum of Ice Cream

The first room you enter is VERY pink and has a bunch of telephones hanging on the walls. In case you’re too young to remember, we used to use these to call people before we had smartphones. 😉 Apparently, if you pick up a phone and listen, there’s something to be heard. I didn’t hear it because I was too busy getting my fiance to take this photo before he decided to move on to the next room.

The Museum of Ice Cream

The next room is the first in which you get ice cream. This room is kind of their rip off on Hollywood…there’s a “Walk of Fame” with stars that say things like “Cone-an O’Brien” and the like. There’s a delicious scoop of McConnell’s Ice cream waiting for you there. We had some sort of Earl Grey and Caramel flavor, and it was absolutely delicious!

They also have a wall that gives off some Beverly Hills Hotel vibes. I’m not going to lie, I kinda put my outfit together based on this wall…

The next room is bananas. No, really, its actual bananas hanging from the ceiling! There’s a fun pair of swings in there, but I definitely did not get a picture of that because my man was beelining it as fast as he could for the next room because at this point he was really not sure about what was going on:

The Museum of Ice Cream

The banana room is fun, but there’s no ice cream in there! We moved right along into the mint room, which obviously smelled fantastic…

The Museum of Ice Cream

There is a very delicious mint chocolate chip mochi waiting for you in this room, followed by an illustration of how they’re attempting to grow mint in soil that is infused with chocolate. Count my mind blown by that!

The Museum of Ice Cream

Next, its the sorbet room. There’s nothing edible in this room, but it is pretty cute!

The Museum of Ice Cream

I dig the retro vibes in this room!

The Museum of Ice Cream

Next up is the gummy bear room. Here, you can pose with some larger than life gummy bears and eat gummy bears as well. No ice cream, but it was nice to get a short break from the richer stuff for a minute.

The Museum of Ice Cream

Followed by the gummy bears, you have the cookie dough infused with charcoal room. I thought this one was particularly artistic looking and the cookie dough was just so delicious. Whoever said eating cookie dough was bad for you just isn’t living, I’m telling you! Better yet, they serve you said cookie dough on a tiny ice cream cone, which is so on theme, wouldn’t you say?! 😉

The next room was tons of huge, melting popsicles. No popsicles were served, and you weren’t allowed to sit on said popcicles. Color me disappointed, but it was still fun to pass through.

Last, but not least, the room that everyone cares about: The sprinkles pool! They will take you in small groups into this room to have a dip, but don’t worry (spoiler alert!), these sprinkles are not real, so its not as disgusting as it might seem.

The Museum of Ice Cream

Sprinkles…sprinkles everywhere!

The Museum of Ice Cream

The sprinkles pool has a variety of fun pool floats and beach balls to play with and use as props, but take advantage while you can because they only allow you about five minutes in there so the next group can get in. Note: you will be finding sprinkles in your hair, toes, shoes, clothing, pockets, etc, for days after you visit this pool. Get ready for that!

The Museum of Ice Cream

The Museum of Ice Cream

After the sprinkles pool, you get let out into the last room which features an ice cream sandwhich swing and a ping pong table for your enjoyment. I personally skipped all of that and made my way to these pink skillets to get myself the last treat of the exhibit: a vanilla ice cream sandwhich with two pink buttermilk pancakes!

The Museum of Ice Cream

The Museum of Ice Cream

Like I mentioned before…you’re not going to learn anything about ice cream here, because its not really a museum in the traditional sense. Come prepared to take a lot of fun photos and eat some amazing sweet treats!

My outfit:

I purposefully chose to wear this outfit to the Museum of Ice Cream because I knew it would pop against all the pink. I also thought the palm print would be fun for the “Hollywood” room so I chose it specifically for that purpose, because you gotta do it for the ‘gram! I suggest that you take a look around online and decide for yourself what you want to wear to this museum. You definitely want to wear a fun outfit, because you’re going to be taking a lot of photos. Colors that seem to work really well here are blush pink, turquoise, light blue, or white. I suggest not wearing black (because you will look a little out of place), or hot pink (you’ll blend in too much in some areas). Definitely do wear something you feel comfortable in. You’re going to be doing all kinds of posing, jumping into sprinkles, and the like, so wear something that’s not going to be hard to navigate all these fun photo opps in.
