I am pretty good at doing a lot of things. One of those things is not packing light. In fact, I am pretty awful at it, as anyone who has ever traveled with me can tell you. I want to bring my entire wardrobe with me just for the sheer joy of having options. Having options comes at a price, and that price is usually the annoyance and burden of schlepping around too many heavy bags. The struggle is real. That’s why when my friend Ashley asked me to help her pack for her honeymoon to London and Paris last month, I had a slight panic attack because I am the definition of a horrible over-packer. I decided to approach it more from a styling standpoint and less of a pack-everything-in-your-wardrobe-that-you-like standpoint, and I think the whole process changed the way I pack for good. First, I had Ashley pull everything from her closet that she likes to wear for cold weather, and put it all on her bed so I could get a good look at all the options we had to work with. Next, I had her describe to me the first day of her trip, and I put an outfit together for her for that day’s activity. After the whole outfit was assembled flat on her bed, we took a picture on her iphone so she could easily reference it during her trip. We repeated this process for each day of the trip. I also really tried to remix pieces together to create multiple different outfits while not packing too heavily. I don’t want to assume that I can break my bad packing habits on myself, but I really want to try to pack this way in the future. If you plan all your outfits in advance, then you don’t have to waste time trying to figure out what to wear. This allows you so much more time to enjoy your vacation. Also, packing versatile pieces that can be styled multiple ways will make your bag lighter, which will result in more money in your wallet and less strain on your back. It’s time to start packing smarter, not heavier. Change can be hard, trust me, I know, but it can be done!
And now, please enjoy these adorable outfits I put together and be jealous of Ashley’s awesome trip. 🙂
Thanks for reading and have a great evening! xo
